EMERGING ARTISTS
Linguistic and artistic scaffolding in the production of digital works based on writing in the mother tongue and foreign languages.
A project of collaboration among the School of Languages, UNC, Escuela Normal Superior Villa del Totoral, Escuela Paritaria Dante Alighieri and Conservatoire "Héctor Panizza", Laguna Larga
Welcome
The year 2020, which marked the rise of virtual environments as the “new normality”, brought students of the National University of Córdoba (UNC) together to guide participants in creative writing workshops along their literary writing process. Participants were given the possibility of honing their writing skills as well as awakening their creativity with the help of tutoring students and professors.
The project named “Linguistic and Artistic Scaffolding in the Production of Digital Bilingual Literary Works Based on Writing: Emerging Artists” belongs to the Student Commitment and Outreach Program of the UNC, and it has the institutional endorsement of the School of Languages in tandem with the Escuela Nacional Superior Villa del Totoral (higher education institution).
The main objectives of the project include:
-
that the students of the School of Languages provide participants in the project with linguistic scaffolding so that they can develop their creative writing skills both in the mother tongue and the target language, and gain some insight into personal development and human relationships in the process;
-
that the tutors edit and further enrich the literary works resulting from the live workshops and collaboratively work on the production of audiovisual and multimedia materials;
-
that a transdisciplinary approach is fostered, whereby literature, the arts and linguistics applied to the editing and translation of literary texts converge into a final digital work.
Throughout the workshops, the students were able to put down in words their stories and anecdotes, which in turn gave rise to expanded works of art that encompass original literary texts in Spanish and English, images, sound and musical production. We hope that the emerging collaborative works of art allow others to extol the value of writing as a means of expression and as a map to their own selves.
Now, we invite you to take a look at the collection of literary works that emerged thanks to the collaborative work of students. You will not only be able to get to know the authors, volunteers, and professors but also to be bewitched by these expressive experiences.

About us
PROJECT
The project "Linguistic and Artistic Scaffolding in the Production of Digital Bilingual Literary Works based on Writing: Emerging Artists" is an institutional collaboration between the School of Languages (UNC) and Escuela Normal Superior Villa del Totoral. This project is part of the Student Commitment and Outreach Program, whose aim is that the students of every undergraduate major of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba commit themselves to helping the community by performing different social tasks.
OUR PURPOSE
Amid the purposes of the project, we can highlight scaffolding in the creative writing process, the editing of books, the production of audiobooks, interactive multimedia and videos, and the promotion of an environment where students can develop their writing, emotional and interpersonal skills.
VISION
After a process of learning and putting life experiences down in black and white, the emerging original stories are meant to be published and made available in scientific and artistic events at national and international levels. The project seeks to work from a transdisciplinary stance in order to transcend literary creation by incorporating different disciplines such as photography, voice recording, musical composition and applied linguistics. Moreover, the students’ achievements can serve as an example and a source of inspiration for others.
VALUES
The development of creative writing skills lies at the heart of the project. The main purpose of the project focuses on the development of creative writing skills as a cathartic means and instrument of emotional literacy. A fundamental pillar of this project is joint and collaborative work. Likewise, respect, creativity, imagination and empathy are fundamental values in the realisation of this project.

Our history
BEGINNINGS
The origins of the project date back to 2015, when a group of English teachers from the Colegio Santo Tomás (primary and secondary school) organised a writing contest. The first prize went to a short story in English written by a student in memory of his father, which was later published as an illustrated book entitled "The Eyes of the Dolphin." The story later became an audiobook, when a professor from the School of Languages recorded a read-out version of the story. An accompanying original soundtrack was also composed. This rewarding experience resulted in the emergence of the Writers' Club, hosted by Believe (non-profit organisation). In 2017, a research and outreach project based in the School of Languages of the UNC joined the project and started to provide institutional endorsement and linguistic counselling to the club.
STUDENT COMMITMENT AND OUTREACH PROGRAMME
In 2018, the project came to be a part of the Student Commitment and Outreach Programme. This programme focuses on creating a cooperative environment in which students of the UNC have the opportunity to forge ties with the community by performing concrete actions that can have a direct impact on society. Afterwards, the edition and translation of the literary works will give rise to a complete compilation of digital stories which include audio and original musical pieces.
VIRTUALITY
In 2020, while going through the Covid-19 pandemic, it was necessary to make adjustments to the project. The English and Spanish writing workshops were implemented in a virtual context, taking advantage of the GSuite package, such as Google Meet and Docs. The benefits offered by this cutting-edge technology allowed for, on the one hand, the development of the students’ creative writing skills beyond social distancing measures and, on the other hand, the production of audiovisual and interactive content. Social platforms such as Instagram are also employed to captivate a broader audience. Furthermore, the works of the emerging artists, the information about the participants, as well as the participation in national and international conferences are all hosted in the bilingual site on Wix.
